Do I Need Winter Tires?
This is a bit of a tricky question to answer with a definitive yes or no. A good rule of thumb is this: if you think you might need them, get them. Winter tires offer far superior grip on wet and icy roads than all-season or warm-weather tires. If winter weather lasts for a long time in your area, you’re better safe than sorry.
How Much Air Should I Put in My Tires?
The amount of air you put into your tires depends on your vehicle, as two different cars that can use the same tires may require different amounts of PSI (Pounds per Square Inch).
You can find your vehicle’s proper pressure on the inside of the driver’s side door frame or inside of the owner’s manual. There are also resources online that can help you determine the correct tire pressure. Many modern vehicle are equipped with a system called TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) that automatically checks your tire pressure and alerts you if your tires are losing pressure.
How Often Do I Need to Replace My Tires?
Again, there is no one answer that works for every situation. It is a good idea to check your tires every month to ensure that they are filled to the correct pressure and that the tread is wearing evenly. After several years of driving, you will want to start checking the tread depth. If the tread is less than 2/32”, you need new tires. If your tires are wearing unevenly or you can see or feel exposed belts, don’t put off getting new tires.
